Analyzing Exemplars

Students working in partners analyzing the video criteria.
Using video exemplars, we took the criteria that we felt was important for our high inference task and put it to the test.  In partners, we watched the videos and analyzed the criteria to see if the video met or did not meet the objectives.  Students learned that we needed to be more specific with our criteria and that sometimes people may have differing opinions.  One discussion that took place was regarding the description of parts and how they moved together.  About half the class felt the video met the criteria because it physically showed the parts moving together.  The other half thought it did not meet the criteria because there was no written or verbal description.  It led to a great discussion about what the word description really meant.
